Lake Somerset, Summer

We jumped into the roadster and headed to the hills for a picnic and some scoping out of painting vistas. I’ve never seen the Kilcoy, Queensland region so cheerfully lush and green.

Here I’ve used a square format to pull you into the scene, and tried to keep it loose and impressionistic. I wanted to capture the bright sunshiny dazzle in the cumulous clouds and lake, and the moving shadows of the clouds on the distant mountains. Roadside grasses, thick and heavy with seed, are reachable in the foreground to anchor the viewer.

This one is painted thickly with various brushes on a stretched linen canvas. I've painted around the edges, and finished with an isolation coat and varnish, so it's ready to hang to add extra depth to your favourite room.
